The Story Of SuGirl Desserts
Meet Carmen and Edmund, a husband and wife duo, who co-founded Sugirl Desserts in June 2020 as a result of the pandemic. In the beginning of 2020, they were overloaded with corporate event and luxury weddings planning schedules when the COVID 19 struck the event industry.
This had badly affected their business and financials. While waiting for the situation to improve, they figured that it was a great time to start another new venture relating to their love for desserts since it was what they’ve always wanted to do but didn’t have the right opportunity to do so, due to their busy schedules previously.
As people say, turn your passion into your career and you will never have to feel like you’re working, right? So that’s exactly what they did. Edmund & Carmen wanted to bridge the gap in the sweet soup based desserts in the market where they could add a modern twist to the desserts that best suits the Malaysian taste buds for it to be more appealing and exciting for the ones consuming.
Sugirl Desserts’ Logo was inspired by their daughter, Charis to remind them of why they decided to start Sugirl Desserts. The lesson learnt throughout this ordeal is that we can always choose to stay put at where we are or we can make the choice to make the best out of what we have. We need to always remind ourselves that we can always find sweetness in life even when times are tough.
They started experimenting in their office kitchen during the first country lockdown, dabbling with the idea of curating desserts with a modern twist inspired by all the desserts they’ve missed from their travels to various countries in Asia & Europe before the pandemic hit.
That was how they started Sugirl Desserts from scratch with the mission of curating modern desserts by incorporating all the local favourite recipes around the world into their creations using fresh local ingredients whilst ensuring their creations are delicious, healthy, affordable and brings warmth to people from all walks of life.
Their aspiration is to create desserts using the finest and natural ingredients with no artificial and no preservatives that they would even let their kids consume.
We decided to try out some of the desserts and here are our Top Five picks!
